Investment Philosophy

How we think about investing

Our investment philosophy is not about chasing returns. It is about building portfolios that are aligned to your goals, tolerant of risk, and disciplined enough to hold through uncertainty.

Our Approach

Evidence-based thinking. Behavioural discipline. Long-term focus.

At Rekab Advice, investment decisions are never made in isolation. Every portfolio is constructed around a client's specific goals, time horizon, tax position and risk tolerance — informed by research, shaped by genuine thinking, and explained clearly so clients understand exactly what we are doing and why.

We combine active investment management with a deep understanding of how behaviour affects long-term outcomes. The result is a disciplined, evidence-based approach that helps clients stay invested through market cycles and avoid the emotional decisions that erode wealth over time.

Our Belief

"Investing well is not about timing markets or chasing returns. It is about building a portfolio aligned to your goals, structured around your life, and disciplined enough to hold through uncertainty."

01

Active Investment Thinking

We believe genuine active management adds value when applied with rigour and discipline. Rather than defaulting to passive index strategies, we evaluate each asset class and market environment on its merits — selecting managers and strategies where active thinking can deliver superior risk-adjusted outcomes for clients.

02

Portfolio Construction

Every portfolio is built from the ground up around the client's goals, time horizon, tax position and risk tolerance. We believe in genuine diversification across asset classes, geographies and investment styles — not simply holding a collection of products. Portfolio construction is an ongoing discipline, not a one-time event.

03

Risk Management

We think about risk not just as volatility, but as the risk of not achieving a goal. A portfolio that is too conservative may feel safe but can fail to meet a client's long-term objectives. We structure portfolios to manage genuine downside risk without sacrificing the growth needed to achieve financial goals.

04

Long-Term Investing

Investment discipline over time is one of the most powerful forces in wealth creation. We help clients stay invested through market cycles, tune out short-term noise, and focus on the decisions that matter over a 10, 20 or 30-year horizon. Our role is to be the steady voice when markets are not.

05

Behavioural Investing

As Certified Behavioural Finance Professionals, we understand how psychological biases — loss aversion, recency bias, overconfidence, herd behaviour — affect investment decisions. We actively work to identify and address these biases in our clients' thinking, and in our own, to support better long-term outcomes.

06

Manager Selection

When we select external investment managers, we evaluate across five dimensions: philosophy, process, people, performance track record in context, and fee efficiency. We look for managers with a clear and consistent investment approach, low staff turnover, and a track record that holds up across different market environments.

07

Evidence-Based Decision Making

Every recommendation we make is grounded in research, data and evidence — not market speculation or short-term thinking. We use the Lonsec research platform for monthly investment reporting and maintain direct relationships with fund managers to stay informed on portfolio construction decisions. We explain our reasoning clearly so clients understand not just what we recommend, but why — and can make confident, informed decisions.
